Secure Biometrics Eliminate cards and PIN codes with Horizon's biometric solutions

BiometricsBiometric identification is no longer a high-tech futuristic concept. It is now being used in school environments as a practical and affordable method of identification. As you may know, biometrics are automated methods of identifying a person based on a physiological characteristic such as face, hand geometry, fingerprint, retina, iris, and voice.

Benefits of using biometrics for student identification

Improve your operation
Serving line speeds improve dramatically when using biometrics rather than traditional identification methods. With biometrics, you will avoid backed-up lunch lines due to misplaced cards or forgotten PIN codes.

Save time and money
Your staff will no longer spend precious time reissuing PIN codes and replacing forgotten, lost, or stolen swipe cards. And, it's not just time you are saving; you will no longer have the cost of producing the cards.

Finger Imaging Devices

Benefits and features

  • Convenient Auto-On feature automatically turns on sensor when it detects a finger
  • Accurately reads the fingerprints of smaller children
  • Works well with dry, wet, scarred, or problematic fingers
  • Patented optical technology for clear image quality with high contrast, high signal-to-noise ratio, and practically no distortion
  • Durable frame and non-membrane based sensor surface
  • No privacy issues

Fingerprint reader

Palm Vein Readers
(Coming Soon!)

Benefits and features

  • Fastest line speed input device—
students can go through the line in seconds
  • Can be deployed in a variety of implementation settings
  • Can be used by anyone—the palm vein scanner has virtually no physiological restrictions
  • Sophisticated algorithms allow for near 100% accuracy every time
  • High tolerance of skin surface problems, e.g. roughness, moisture, and dirt
  • No contact with the sensor necessary
  • No privacy issues

Palm Vein Reader

Boost security and protect privacy
Horizon understands the importance of personal privacy and the need for particular care in the education setting. Consequently, several important security features are included to fully protect the privacy of those using the system:
  • Fingerprint/vein images are NOT stored
  • Fingerprint/vein data is stored in a proprietary format
  • All fingerprint/vein data is stored using the AES 128-bit encryption algorithm

Instead of storing fingerprint or vein images, the system only stores templates that are a numeric representation of the individual fingerprint/veins. Templates can be used for matching, but the actual fingerprint cannot be reconstructed. It is gradually becoming common knowledge that biometrics actually protect personal privacy. You can rest assured that fingerprints and vein images are not stored anywhere and can never be recreated from the encrypted digital templates.
