Does Horizon Student Nutrition Guide encourage parental involvement in Nutrition Education?
Horizon Student Nutrition Guide’s curriculum has been designed to include families as much as possible. With the majority of food choices still being made by the parents, Horizon has incorporated easy-to-navigate menus on the CDs for the parents’ use. This information is presented in a fast, informative manner without the interactive games, although these can be utilized if the parent wishes. Horizon realizes that there is a whole generation of parents who are not as informed as they could be about nutrition and activity, so Horizon Student Nutrition Guide provides an opportunity for the parents to learn and grow as well.

Has this been tested and, if so, what were the results?
Horizon conducted seven pilots in the spring of 2005. Since these pilots were conducted in the spring, most school districts already had a nutrition unit before we started; however, a 32 percentage point increase between their pre-test scores and their post-test scores was still realized after teaching Horizon Student Nutrition Guide. These results were very encouraging, and the teacher feedback was outstanding. Every teacher who conducted a pilot commented that the children loved the interactive CDs, playing them again and again, allowing them to learn the information needed.
